ArteFino, a new arts and crafts fair highlighting the expertise of Filipino artisans, debuts this month at 8 Rockwell. More than 70 vendors are expected to participate in the fair, with offerings that include exquisite Philippine textiles, home and fashion accessories, furniture, and specialty food items.
The fair is organized by Cedie Vargas, Armita Rufino, Maritess Pineda, Susie Quiros, and Marimel Francisco, a team that has had great success in mounting similar projects in the past. “We’re collaborating here with vendors whom we’ve been with for many years. It’s already like a community. But what is exciting is that many new collaborations between various producers are emerging. Just one example is that of Al Valenciano’s Balay ni Atong, known for its hand-woven Ilocano textiles. Al will be working on a new collection with Len Cabili of Filip+Inna and jeweler Natalya Lagdameo,” shares Vargas.
ArteFino’s advocacy is to elevate the Filipino artisan, celebrating his or her creativity, preserving craft-making traditions, and ensuring long-term sustainability. “ArteFino encourages a good exchange of ideas between vendors, the artisans, and the public,” says Vargas. “We are working closely with our vendors to see where we can support them. Many of them we have seen evolve. We want to keep growing. Our hope is that we can inject many of our traditions in different areas of craft, art and dining, into the mix. We want to push the movement of being truly proud of what we can do as Filipinos. Wear it not just in our soul, but in all that we do.”
Visitors to the fair can look forward to new collections from Olive Tree Corporation (specialty linens), Tali Handmade (handcrafted bags and accessories), Milvidas (hand-crocheted bags and other products), Silnag (carabao horn accessories), Anthill Fabric Gallery (hand-woven fabrics), GKonomics-Clare Hynes (jewelry), SC Vizcarra (hand-woven and embroidered bags), and many more.
